50 Pounds of Luggage...and Not an Ounce Less!

It's been a busy six weeks since leaving the US. Work is in full swing and it's been a great start to my 4th year in Milan. It seems so cliche to say how fast time has gone, but it's incredibly true.

When I pack to leave the US, I weigh my luggage over and over again to get the most from the 50 pounds the airline allows me. I'm often asked what I bring back to Italy with me, so I thought I'd share some of the American goodies I don't like to live without.

American gum! Gum in Europe is slimy...and I'm a gum addict.

Tazo Zen tea- Sure, you can get tea here, but I love this blend of green tea with spearmint.

There's pasta everywhere, but there's nothing like processed cheese to offer a feeling of home.

Mashed potatoes! Yum! I've been since reminded that you can actually buy these here.

I love the 'normal' size chocolate chips I'm used to...and butterscotch too!

Pancetta- you ain't got nothin' on American bacon.
This is just a taste of some of the things I haul across the ocean each time I travel. It's changed a little each year as I become better at finding some Italian equivalents and more accustomed to the food products that are more readily available.

What tastes of home can't you live without?

  1. Ooh I'm so jealous - I'm back home after my year in Milan. I missed fish and chips a LOT when I was there but now I'm home I can't get through a single day without dreaming of scamorza. And stracchino. And piadine. And the gelato. And fried zucchini flowers. And the infinite pasta and risotto dishes... So yeah, I'll be bringing some of that back to the UK next time I go over ha xxx

    1. Hi Lucy! Thanks for commenting! I love scamorza too! So many great things here in Italy, and each year I bring a little less back from the US...but the gum...that'll never change!

  2. I always bring ALOT of American gum back with me, too. Oh, and once I brought back a huge bag of Cadbury mini-eggs...they didn't last long! I usually get asked by family and friends in Italy to bring back peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies and popcorn seeds.
